Saint Augustine’s Presents: Bakewell Hall Art Show

On Saturday, November 4, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm, we will have our first art show at Saint Augustine's. Featured artists include members of the congregation, local artisans, and students from Laney College in Oakland. Come and invite your friends to this wonderful event in support of the arts in our community. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase. Art pieces will remain in Bakewell Hall through Sunday, November 5, Fellowship Hour.

All Saints Sunday and Retirement Celebration for Deacon Frank Sterling

We will celebrate All Saints Day on Sunday, November 5, at our 10:00am service. This will also be Deacon Frank's last Sunday with us, serving from the altar. He has decided he is ready for a well-deserved retirement from active ministry, with the advent of his 85 birthday (on November 4). There will be a guest preacher and other special events, included in our time of worship and Fellowship Hour, following the service. Traditionally, this is also the Sunday we recognized all the faithful departed. You are encouraged to print, complete and return the information form included in your bulletin.

Thank You From Joan Moreno

My sincere thanks and appreciation to the members of St. Augustine’s, to the members of St. Monnica’s Guild, and to the Episcopal Church Women for your well wishes and your generosity. I cannot put into words how grateful I am for all of you. I will miss worshipping at St. Augustine’s, but the memories of my time here will bring me great comfort and joy as I begin the next phase of my life.

Receiving the Bread and Wine at Holy Communion

To help the servers know your intentions, please consider using the following signals as you come to the altar rail:

  • Arms crossed in front of you - receive a prayer in blessing instead of the bread and wine
  • Hands one atop the other, palms up - receive the bread, and then the wine from the chalice
  • Hands clasped together - by intinction, the server will dip the bread in the wine and place it on your tongue

Everyone is welcome at the Lord's table. Please signal an usher if you would prefer that the bread and wine be brought to you where you are seated.
